A gaggle of Hollywood A-listers – including Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro and Sienna Miller – will appear on Chislehurst Common at the end of the month as part of a fundraising drive.
Okay, so they won’t appear in person, but instead on the screen of an open-air cinema that will show the 2007 film Stardust, which they star in.
The cinema will be on the playing fields of Chislehurst C of E Primary, School Road on 30 July with the reels rolling at twilight.
Proceeds from the screening will go towards wider fundraising to ensure that Chislehurst Common remains under the management of local people.
The management of the Common is facing a funding shortfall after Bromley Council reduced its grant. The Trustees of the Common warn that unless sufficient money is raised the land could fall into the hands of the freeholder raising the risk of development.
“What would happen if we could not raise enough money? There could be steady deterioration in the state of the Commons and ultimately, if the Trustees could no longer afford their upkeep, the Lord of the Manor might sell them off, in bits and pieces, to developers,” the Trustees say in their latest newsletter.
I saw the poster today and assumed it was the 1974 film with David Essex.
I think that if they screened David Essex it would be curtains for the Commons!
Absolutely delighted to find your article about the Open Air Cinema. It should be an amazing evening. The evening kicks off with a jazz band, there will be Babylonian sausages, Stormhold fruit cocktails and shredded cloud ice cream by the renown Bompas and Parr food wizards, fortune telling and creative fun for children of all ages.
I can’t wait for this tomorrow!
