“It’s like the f***ing Planet of the Apes around here. Bring in the Army, that’s what I say, bring ‘em in now.” A burly man in his 40s stomps through Lewisham town centre this morning surveying the carcasses of burnt out cars. He’s angry at what he sees in his town following last night’s riot and he is sharing his views with anyone who will listen. Further down the street towards Lee High Road – the scene of last night’s standoff between the police and a large crowd – a couple in their 20s walk with brushes in hand planning to do their bit to sweep glass from the pavement. Welcome to the morning after the night before.

“the morning after the night before”……………… “the riot on our doorstep”………….blah blah blah……please don’t sensationalise any further what has been an appalling couple of nights for London generally. Just be grateful that the police did manage to contain them before Bromley and that they didn’t get any further than Catford.
Is the Chislehurst News site really the place for post-riot pics of lewisham?
yes because a lot of chislehurst residents are in denial where they came from
The people in these communities know who these people are. They know the families that care more about where their next fix or bottle is comming from than what their kids are up too.
Name these maggots and shame them. Not just them but their parasite families as well. We do not have to put up with this minority of scum and we all have the power to act. Public humiliation for the out of control kids and their disfunctional families is a must.
EH,
I can assure you that the coverage of the riots on CN is not sensationalist in any way. What I have written is exactly what I witnessed, both yesterday evening as I was travelling home by bike and also this morning. The photos are my own too.
As to whether it is legit to put the articles on a site that is focused on BR7 – I understand your argument, but I do feel that most people in Chislehurst are interested in learning what’s happening down the road from them, and that was the point I was making in the ‘Riot on our doorstep’ article.
Because the coverage is true and accurate I hope that the site offering something a little different to the mainstream media.
All the best,
CH
The site and coverage is excellent. Don’t be put off by EH’s negative comment. This is a major news story, as you say, on our doorstep and it deserves our attention.
CH – good reporting. Are you planning on popping over to Bromley? There are conflicting reports as to what actually happened last night.
Maybe some of your readers could comment too.
Yours, MattM
Try as we might, we don’t all live in a little leafy subburban bubble.
Good coverage BTW. Especially like the sentiment behind the riot on the doorstep article.
